Most adult chidlren with a disability are extremely dependent on their parent/s and family for their well-being including safety, security, financial support, housing, medical as well as love and support. As parents begin to age, it becomes more crucial for a plan to be in place for both the adult child and the parent/s.
For parents with “special needs” children, planning ahead is a necessity. Of course, it is a difficult time for everybody involved and we understand this at Carinbundi and are here to help and guide families to make the best choice for them and their loved-one.
At Carinbundi, we have found that adult children who move into supported independent living when their parent/s are still alive are better able to manage the transition. This enables the parent/s to support and encourage their adult children as they begin their new life of independence.
We encourage parents and family members to visit and be part of their loved-ones’ lives. This is such an important part of Supported Independent Living.
“It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb which means that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment.
This is the environment we create in all of the Carinbundi SIL homes.
A circle of friends, family and support staff working together to ensure all of the residents have the opportunity to reach their full potential and lead meaningful lives as valued members of their community.
